Step into the world of the little-known family of the master Rameau, played on a historic instrument associated with Scott Ross, housed in an ancient castle in southern France In January 2021, clavichord virtuoso Justin Taylor successfully completed a tour of Japan after completing a quarantine period amid the spread of COVID-19, confirming the high level of attention he has garnered in France and across Europe. A rising star of the new generation—who has achieved success at the Bruges International Early Music Competition and whose steady stream of releases on the ALPHA label has garnered high praise both in France and abroad—now presents his new album, *Rameau’s Family*. As is well known from Diderot’s dialogue-style essay *Rameau’s Nephew*—written by the Enlightenment philosopher— Rameau had several musicians in his family; this album includes not only the harpsichord works of the master Jean-Philippe Rameau but also pieces by other family members, tracing the family lineage through the Classical period. Furthermore, by weaving into the program works by Taplé—an important keyboard musician of the late 18th century—and pieces by Debussy performed on a renowned late 19th-century piano, the album offers a particularly multi-layered listening experience (with liner notes written by the performer herself). The harpsichord is an 18th-century instrument from Château d’Assas in southern France, famous for having been a favorite of the late Scott Ross. The historical piano is an original instrument from the collection of the Museum of Musical Instruments at the Cité de la Musique in Paris. Hugues Desha, a renowned engineer with ALPHA since its early days, has vividly captured the enchanting beauty of the sound and the spatial resonance, conveying both the atmosphere and the essence of the music that rises naturally from Taylor’s relaxed performance.
