The vocal and instrumental works of experimental music of the late 20th century are deeply connected with Italian poetry and thought, and this album impressively conveys the philosophy and compositional techniques of two composers, NONO, born in 1924 and a rising force in post-WWII avant-garde music, and CHARINO, a contemporary Italian master of the 16th century. and 17th century and 20th and 21st century music, the vocal ensemble Schola Heidelberg, under the direction of its founder and conductor Nussbaum, sings NONO: "Sala Dolce Tacere" on a poem by the Italian Neorealismo writer Cesare Pavese, and an ensemble of Sharino's She sings two works. NONO's "Polyfonica monodia ritomica," an early work for six instruments and percussion, was renowned for its complex but beautiful melody, and here Ensemble Istasis makes the world premiere recording of the original version. In addition, a bonus track is the chamber music version (abridged version) premiered at the 1951 Darmstadt Summer School of Contemporary Music under the direction of Scherchen. Naxos Japan
