Description:
On the bicentennial of Clara Schumann's birth, the program will focus on "The Poet's Love," a collection of linked songs written by her husband Robert Schumann, with a selection of songs by each of the couple. Julien Prégardien, son of Christophe Prégardien, a renowned singer who was trusted by Gustave Leonhardt, Nikolaus Arnoncourt, and other leading figures of the 20th century revival of old music, makes his presence felt even more strongly in this disc. Julien Prégardien, who was scheduled to record "The Poet's Love" a few years ago, postponed the recording in order to reinterpret it after the publication of the latest revision of the score. Eric Le Sage, who also recorded all of Schumann's piano works for the Alpha label, faces Schumann's original instrument from the year of Schumann's death and approaches the work "as it was in the 19th century" with the presence of Clara Schumann, who was also a pianist. The duet track is performed by Sandrine Piau, whose singing has been increasingly popular in recent years. The commentary includes the performer's own comments.This is a disc with a splendid cast that will expose you to unexpected aspects of a series of songs that are extremely important in the history of German Romantic music.
