Description:
Henri Marteau is a French-born, naturalized Swedish violinist. As a composer, he has left several impressive works, mainly chamber music. The songs in Op. 19 were composed between 1915 and 1917, when he was living in Sweden under the patronage of the King of Sweden after his expulsion from Germany. Originally accompanied by a string ensemble, the Bulgarian composer Vladiguerov arranged them into a piano version. Op. 28 is a collection of songs with poems by German poets. These songs are sung by the famous singer Vesselina Kasarova. She sings these songs with a delicate expression that differs from that of her operas. Op.39 "Song of Reeds" with viola is a recording of the historical singing by Fischer-Dieskau in 1956. This is a disc that reaffirms Marteau's appeal. Naxos Japan
