Produced by Al Kooper, this is a white-hot big band jazz-rock album featuring the young Jay Graydon! Don Ellis, a gifted trumpeter and bandleader, released this album from Columbia in 1969, which was produced by Al Kooper and features a female singer. The album was produced by Al Kooper and features a female singer and a repertoire of well-known songs by Laura Nyro, Sly & the Family Stone, and the Isley Brothers, making it very interesting for rock fans and soul/funk fans alike. The opening track, a cover of Blood, Sweat & Tears' "Funky Big Band Sound," starts off with a high-tension big band sound, but it is the young Jay Graydon who plays the sharp guitar on this track. The young Jay Graydon's sharp guitar playing on this track is a highlight of the album, as he adds a rock edge to the funky big band sound. The bonus track is an additional number, "Child Of Ecstasy," which also appears on the 1968 album "Autumn," which was cut as a single coupled with the M-5 "Eli's Comin. Includes obi commentary.
