Complete first appearance and first repertoire! Martinon, a multi-talented composer and conductor, resigned as Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra after only five years. The reasons may vary, but the truth is that he had a breakdown with the management. Mahler's Fourth appeared from the concert held in his final season! The orchestra is highly respected by him, otherwise this masterpiece would not have been produced. Martinon is a keen Mahler player and performed No. 1 with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra during their tour in Japan, but there are no studio recordings of Mahler's music due to the record company's image strategy. This disc is a good stereo recording and should quench your thirst. Mahler's music is as exhilarating as a clear blue sky. The third movement, for example, is over 20 minutes long and has a unique character with a touch of aloofness. Smith-Scaler, a pianist and singer from Chicago, sings beautifully. Muse Trade
