In the first collection, pianist Andrew Wright lays out Liszt, Thalberg and Martucci, and his own transcriptions, beautifully recreating "how opera was enjoyed at home" in the mid to late 19th century. In the second collection, he has prepared works by even more unusual composers to present brilliant and skillful arrangements. The transcriptions are more like transfers of the original works to the piano with various embellishments, while the paraphrases are more technical.
