Description:

Here comes a rare live recording of the gifted conductor Guido Cantelli (1920-1956), who died unexpectedly in a plane crash at the young age of only 36. He was born in Novara, a town near Milan, and showed a talent for piano at an early age. However, he was forcibly drafted into the Italian army and was arrested by the Germans. However, he successfully escaped and threw himself into resistance activities in Milan, where Italy unconditionally surrendered and he was finally set free. After the war ended, in 1945, he conducted the La Scala for the first time, and his remarkable conducting performance earned him the reputation as "Toscanini's successor. In 1948, Toscanini and Cantelli met for the first time, and the following year Cantelli was invited by Toscanini to conduct the NBC Symphony Orchestra, which led him to the U.S. From 1949, Cantelli conducted annually in the U.S. He appeared at the Edinburgh Festival in 1950, Lucerne in 1951, and Salzburg and Venice in 1951, In 1950, he appeared at the Edinburgh Festival, and in 1951 at the Salzburg, Salzburg, and Venice Festivals, and began recording with the Philharmonia Orchestra for EMI. But who knew that he had so little time left to live up to his remarkable achievements? This live recording from two years before his death is filled with white-hot energy and breathtaking tension, and shows a different side to the exquisite studio recordings. Naxos Japan
