Beethoven (1770-1827)
Description:
This is a surprising release. When Klemperer resumed his activities in Germany after the war, he was most closely associated with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra. Some of their performances have already been released on CD on various labels, including Beethoven's. For some reason, Beethoven's 1966 Beethoven Concerto, which had never seen the light of day before, appeared on CD for the first time! For some reason, the 1966 Beethoven concertos have never seen the light of day until now, and now they are available for the first time in their entirety! It is a very fine stereo recording, which is a joy to hear. You can enjoy Klemperer's unique arrangement of the two wings of the violin. The "Leonore" Overture No. 3 is the most recent performance, and a most welcome release, since the live performance with the Berlin Philharmonic in May of the same year was in mono. The performance begins with a strong, powerful note that seems to strike the brain, and the solemn sound and tension are sustained. Klemperer's sublime artistry is overwhelming. No. 4 is another favorite repertoire. The live performance of No. 4 by Klemperer with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1969 is well known, but the tempo in this performance is more lively than that. The performance is heavy yet joyful. No. 5 "Fate" is another of the master's favorite masterpieces. Listening carefully, you can hear Klemperer's clear intention to emphasize the woodwinds and make them float, while forcing the string ensemble to be quite rigorous. The serious tone of the horns in the third movement, which is typical of German orchestras, resonates in the listener's heart. This is a must-have masterpiece. Tobu Land System
