This is a compilation of rare and previously unreleased recordings from the same sessions that were not included on the three classic albums "Mingus Presents Mingus", "Mingus", and "Reincarnation of a Love Bird", which were created from material recorded by the genius and maverick jazz bassist & composer Charles Mingus for Candid in 1960. This is the first CD release (remastered) of the analog version that was released exclusively on Record Store Day in November 2023! The album features Eric Dolphy (Sax), Tommy Flanagan (P), Paul Bray (P), and more. Charles Mingus, born in 1922, has been active as a professional bassist since the 40's. In the 50's, he played with Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Dizzy Gillespie, and other hard bop mainstays. He released several albums on his own debut record label, and in 1956 released the classic album "The Upright Ape Man" on Atlantic, for which he received critical acclaim as a bandleader. He continued to release albums that addressed social issues, including "Mingus Three" in 1957 and "Mingus Ah Um" in 1959.In 1960, he released several albums on Candid, including "Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus," and in the 1970s he released "Changes One & Two" in 1974, "Cumbia & Jazz Fusion" in 1977, and a number of solo piano and big band recordings. He also made many recordings in various forms, including solo piano and big band. In 1979, at the young age of 56, he died of ALS. Mingus" by Joni Mitchell, in which Mingus himself participated, was released posthumously as a memorial album.
