Description:
Toni Vescoli, born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1942, is a singer/songwriter/guitarist who led the four-piece band LES SEAUTERELLS, also known as the "Swiss Beatles" (lyrics in English) in the late 1960s, and a pioneer of Swiss psychedelic rock music. The band's first album, "Hong Kong" (1965), was released in 1966. The band had Top Ten hits such as "Hong Kong" (1965) and "Heavenly Club" (1968) before disbanding in 1970. After that, Vescoli went solo. This "Information" album, released in 1971, is his memorable solo debut, and is the only album with English lyrics for Vescoli, who started to concentrate on rock music in the Swiss German dialect (commonly used in Switzerland) from his second album in 1974. It is also a valuable album in this sense (the original version was released by CBS Columbia in Switzerland). The music of the Beatles and Bob Dylan (he also released a Dylan cover album in the 1990s) is absorbed uniquely, creating an original sound that is different from Anglo-American rock. The music here is a singer-songwriter's rendition of 60s psychedelic rock, backed by bass and drums.Even when the raga scale of the sitar is performed with an elecricric guitar, it has an atmosphere different from that of so-called Anglo-American raga rock. This also creates a unique originality. From a folk-pop tune with Dylan-like singing to a psychedelic number with floating fuzz guitar, this is a masterpiece of Swiss psychedelic folk music.
