An EP from 2021, the American soundtrack to a fictional Japanese film. What would Ginger Root sound like if they were asked to create the American soundtrack for a fictional 1981 Japanese film titled "City Slicker"? The answer is the EP City Slicker. While previous Ginger Root albums have contained introspective themes and observations of past personal experiences, this release is the first collection of songs written from an outside perspective. It is a collection of songs in an invented fictional world. It follows the protagonist, dubbed "City Slicker" by his neighbors, on a brief 19-minute escape to an unlikely metropolis. With this EP, Ginger Root continues to explore the genre he calls "Aggressive Elevator Soul. He fuses the skeletons and blueprints of yacht rock and city pop with the textures of the ever-evolving bedroom pop scene, and from there Ginger Root has created something uniquely his own.Some would argue that the best way to listen to "City Slicker" is not on vinyl or cassette, but on VHS. Suppose such a merchandise were made.
