Fascinated by the beautiful tones created by the intermingling of bassoon and string quartet, Ruy Lopez selected six works by six composers he has a strong attachment to and performed all of them as a bassoon quintet. This album was created after a long period of preparation, and it is an album bursting with a unique individuality that no one else can imitate. The du Puy quintet is the work that made Lopez fall in love with this composition. The quintet is full of beautiful melodies and joyful interplay between the instruments. In Saint-Saens' masterpiece Sonata, Lopez's skillful arrangement of the difficult piano part into a string quartet is also a surprise. The music also incorporates jazz, rock, and tango idioms, and the compositions are so well-crafted that you will never get tired of them, despite the same compositional structure. King International
