Description:
Special Concert Live in New York on the 10th Anniversary of "9/11" Gilbert & New York Philharmonic perform Mahler's "Resurrection" ACCENTUS MUSIC presents a remarkable video clip of Alan Gilbert conducting the New York Philharmonic, the orchestra's musical director, in a performance of Mahler's "Resurrection. Alan Gilbert conducted the New York Philharmonic, for which he serves as music director, in a performance of Mahler's "Resurrection" on September 10, 2011, the day after the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States. Alan Gilbert, who has been Music Director of the New York Philharmonic since the 2009/10 season, gave a live recording of the special concert at Avery Fisher Hall, the home of the Philharmonic's headquarters in New York City, which suffered an unprecedented tragedy, in May 2011. He was interviewed about Mahler by Unifersal Edizione in Vienna in May 2011.According to Gilbert, he still vividly remembers his "first encounter with Mahler" at the age of nine, at the Mahler Festival held by the New York Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall in the fall of 1976, where he heard the entire symphony, including the Adagio from No. 10, with conductors Reinsdorff, Levine, and Boulez, He heard the entire symphony, including the Adagio from the Tenth Symphony, under the direction of such great conductors as Reinsdorf, Levine, and Boulez. It is hard to say how much of an impact this experience had on Alan, but it seems that Alan Gilbert has been eager to take up Mahler's works since he conducted the First Symphony in Tokyo in 1995, and he has been a regular guest conductor with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since June 2008, when he retired as Principal Conductor. In June 2008, he performed the Ninth Symphony with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the program commemorating his retirement as chief conductor, and shortly thereafter made a session recording of the same work for BIS.Incidentally, Alan Gilbert also performed Mahler's "Resurrection" on September 22, 24, and 27, the day after the 2011/12 opening, with a different lineup of soloists (Mia Persson and Lili Persikivi). Mahler's "Resurrection" is a highly eventful work in nature, beginning with a funeral service and culminating in a finale with the chorus singing hymns of praise in high spirits. The New York Times also called the performance "consistently moving from start to finish," with "excellent soloists and an exquisite chorus. The New York Times also noted that the performance was "consistently moving from start to finish," with "excellent soloists and a superb chorus. The New York Philharmonic opened my eyes to Mahler's music, and now Alan Gilbert conducts the New York Philharmonic, which has its own tradition of Mahler performance, in Mahler's "Resurrection," which is a remarkable work that also evokes a sense of fateful connection.
