Schee & Gewandhaus Orchestra / Mahler's "Resurrection" & "Symphony of a Thousand People" 2011 Live Films Two gorgeous live performances of Mahler's two symphonies by the Gewandhaus Orchestra led by Riccardo Schee, the 19th Kapellmeister since 2005, will be released simultaneously on four different formats. Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection" and Symphony No. 8 "Symphony of a Thousand" were both recorded at the International Mahler Festival held in Leipzig in May 2011 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the composer's death. The live recording of the complete Mahler symphonies that Schee completed with the RCO when he was chief conductor was recorded in November 2001 for No. 2 and in January 2000 for No. 8, so this is the first re-recording in 10 to 11 years.In the previous meeting with the prestigious RCO, which boasts one of the best traditions in Mahler performance, we were treated to a full program. The orchestra has already released a recording of Schumann's symphonies in the "Mahler Version" with the orchestra.
