Consort and vocal music collection by William Byrd, a master of the English Renaissance, with the cool and refreshing voice of Im Soon-Hae and the recorder quintet filled with the warmth of wood by the Be Five Recorder Consort! William Byrd, one of the most famous composers of the English Renaissance, is revered as the "Father of Britannian Music. This CD features consort and vocal music from his many works. Consort is a term used to describe English chamber music of the 16th and 17th centuries. Bard's consort is often played by an ensemble of viols these days, but on this CD, it is performed by a warm recorder ensemble. Bird is said to have loved folk songs, and the first piece on the CD, "Fantasy III," subtly incorporates the famous folk song "Greensleeves," which shows his fondness for folk music. The vocal pieces were sung by boys playing female roles in 16th century theaters. The final song, "Holy Muse," is a tribute to his teacher and family friend, Thomas Tallis, on his deathbed.Performers will be soprano Im Sunhee, who has been attracting attention for her performances in opera houses and music festivals around the world since her European debut in 2000, and the Be Five Recorder Consort, a recorder quintet that performs Renaissance music and premieres of new pieces in a highly accurate ensemble.
