To commemorate this occasion, the QUERSTAND label—based near Leipzig, a city closely associated with Mendelssohn—has decided to release the “Mendelssohn Anthology,” a 10-volume series. While some tracks—such as readings of letters and biographies—may be a bit challenging, this promises to be a valuable anthology featuring rare works by Mendelssohn and his contemporaries. This collection brings together works by musicians whom Mendelssohn met—whether professionally or privately—and who influenced one another during his formative years, from his teens, when he first began immersing himself in the musical environment of Berlin, through the brilliant period of his career in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Leipzig, up until his early thirties—a period marked by his brilliant career—this collection brings together works by musicians with whom he interacted, both professionally and privately, and who mutually influenced one another.
