Gimpel was concertmaster of the Königsberg Orchestra (1929-1931), the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra (1931-1936), and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (1937-1942), and won a prize at the first Wieniawski International Violin Competition in 1935.
