Using period-style Classical Bow & Gut strings, the quartet delivers a meticulous ensemble performance, recreating Haydn’s music based on historical knowledge using scores published during his lifetime and edited for practical use. Beginning with the String Quartets, Op. 9—considered the starting point for the development of this new genre, including by the composer himself—this set contains 10 double-CD sets. All come in beautiful double paper sleeves featuring magnificent paintings by Samuel Scott. Each sleeve includes a track list, and many also feature reproductions of the original scores and frontispieces.
