The second volume, Antal Dorati in London Vol. 2, contains recordings from June 1960 to August 1966. 28 CD box set. Limited edition. Included as a bonus is a rare album of neoclassical works by Julian Alborn ("Tres cantigas del Rey" sung by Heather Harper) and Manuel de Falla (harpsichord concerto played by Rafael Puyana), released by Phillips. The album is available for purchase. The works of Bartók, another Hungarian composer like Dorati, have never been recorded before. His Concerto for Orchestra, Divertimento for Strings, and Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta have rarely been equaled in terms of atmosphere and accuracy. Also included are Bartók's most famous stage works, "Bluebeard's Castle," as well as "The Wonderful Chinese Official" and "The Wooden Prince. In "Bluebeard's Castle," the narration of the "Prologue" is included on CD for the first time. Following the first volume are Haydn's symphonies (Nos. 59 and 81), the complete symphonies of Brahms and Tchaikovsky, as well as three albums of concertos with violinist Henrik Schelling. Also included are Satie's "Parade" and Milhaud's "The Cow on the Roof," both focused on Paris in the surrealist era, as well as rare works by Francais and Auric. In addition to the London Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra includes the Festival Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the New Philharmonia Orchestra, which performed Tchaikovsky's complete orchestral suites. Thomas Fine is supervising the remastering and mastering. Includes a new essay by David Patmore on the historical context and importance of these recordings. In original jacket. (UNIVERSAL MUSIC/IMS)
