A collection of representative recordings by a master Austrian pianist renowned for his interpretation of Beethoven 12 CD box set Decca is pleased to announce the release of a 12-CD box set containing all of Beethoven's piano concertos and piano sonatas by Alfred Brendel, one of the greatest musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries. This is a classic recording by the acclaimed Beethoven interpreter: all of Brendel's piano sonatas recorded for Philips in the 1970s, the complete piano concertos recorded in 1983 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Levine, and the piano sonatas recorded in 1977 by Bernard Haitink and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The collection also includes a recording of the Choral Fantasy with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Bernard Haitink in 1977. Alfred Brendel is an Austrian pianist from Moravia. While known for his outstanding performances of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann, and Liszt, he was also an accomplished writer and poet. His musical talents were greatly influenced by his non-musical interests, and writing was a constant source of inspiration and expression for Brendel.He also cites "laughter" as one of his favorite things to do, and this is expressed in his rare ability to highlight unexpected elements of humor, especially in his performances of Haydn and his favorite Beethoven.
