This self-titled album, released in 1969, cemented Coco Taylor’s status as Chicago’s undisputed “Queen of the Blues.” Discovered at Chicago’s legendary club, Silvio’s Lounge, by Willie Dixon—Chess Records’ in-house bassist and producer—she was entrusted by Dixon with “One Dan Doodle.” The song sold over a million copies and became her signature tune. Featuring a wealth of her most recent hit singles, this album includes, in addition to “One Dan Doodle,” the Dixon-penned “Twenty-Nine Ways (To My Baby’s Door),” “Yes, It’s Good for You,” as well as her own composition “Nitty Gritty,” featuring Johnny Shines’ poignant slide guitar. Coco Taylor remains a cornerstone of Chicago electric blues to this day.
