Description:

A release commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Irene Farrell, the famous soprano who captivated 20th century America! All of her recordings for Columbia are collected on 16 CDs. If the fate of a country were to be decided by a vocal competition, the United States would surely enter Irene Farrell. If a country's fate is decided in a vocal competition, America will surely enter Eileen Farrell, the most famous American soprano of the 20th century (1920-2002). To celebrate the 100th anniversary of her birth, all of the soprano's recordings for Columbia between 1946 and 1963 are packed onto 16 CDs. Born into a Vaudeville family, Farrell's voice developed its charms from an early age, so much so that before he was 20 years old, he had his own show on CBS radio, where Sinatra even appeared as a guest. On that show, Farrell performed a wide range of operatic arias, light classics, Irish ballads, and even Broadway songs, and became a nationally popular singer in America. This box also reflects Farrell's charm, as his voice seems to transcend genres.Stokowski, who was fascinated by Farel's program, used her in a concert with the New York Philharmonic in 1949, which led to the acquaintance of Mitropoulos, then music director of the Philharmonic, who used Farel in a concert-style performance of "Vozek" in 1951. The performance was recorded live by Columbia and was acclaimed as the world premiere recording of the work (CD1/2). His operatic debut was in 1956 in San Francisco in "Trovatore" with Björling. CDs 4, 5, 9, and 12 are a selection of Farel's operatic roles in which he excelled. CDs 4, 5, 9, and 12 are collections of arias from operatic roles in which Farel excelled, accompanied by the famous conductors Max Rudolf and Faust Kleeva, who supported the Met's musical side. The two works were awarded a Grammy Award in 1961 for their superb performances.Farel was praised for his expressive singing in oratorios, so it was natural that he was chosen for Handel's "Messiah" (CD 8) conducted by Ormandy and Beethoven's "Missa solemnis" (CD 11) conducted by Bernstein. It was also effective in songs (CD7 and CD16) that did not necessarily require a large voice. (1/2) Sony Music
