2020, 30th Anniversary of the Death of Famed Pianist "Pierre Barbizet "BOXBest known as the duo partner of violinist Christian Ferras, Pierre Barbizet was renowned for the integrity, vitality, and generosity he brought to all his musical performances. Barbizet was born in Chile in 1922 to a French family and learned piano and music from his violinist mother. He began his serious piano training at the Conservatoire de Marseille and continued his studies at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he graduated first in piano in 1944. In 1948, he won the Grand Prix at the International Competition in Suchenningen, and in 1949, he was selected as the fifth prize winner at the International Competition of Ron Thibaud. There he met the violin prodigy Christian Ferras, and their friendship grew, and the legendary duo was born. They toured and recorded major works by Beethoven, Debussy, and Enescu. He also became friends with Sanson-François, with whom they played jazz together in Paris and recorded Chopin and Ravel. 1963 he became Director and Professor of Piano at the Conservatoire de Marseille, a position he held until his death in 1990. A charismatic and prestigious teacher, he produced many outstanding pianists. One of them, Hélène Grimaud, wrote: "What was most wonderful was the generosity of his heart...He gave generously and gave everything in a single poetic sentiment that was animated by an image. He provided the keys to a single song, citing rhyme, rhythm, and color. Telling stories, laughing stories. Then everything becomes clear...," he wrote in his book, "A Wild Chronicle. This set includes complete legacy recordings by Barbizet for Telefunken, Erato, and the former EMI. The chamber music, concertos, piano solos and the complete piano works of Chabrier and, of course, with Ferras are the best examples of his lively and colorful playing.Beethoven: Passions" and "Schumann: Piano Quartet" will be released on CD for the first time with the latest remastering from the original master tapes in 2020.
