Set to excerpts from Caroline Fauchet's epic poem, this collection of music depicts one woman's journey between life and death with thousands of fantastic and nonlinear images. Exploring memories of childhood, war, love, and loss, THE BLUE HOUR is a richer sonic expression of the beauty, pain, and fragility of human life from a collective female perspective. The music written by these women is performed by the Boston-based chamber orchestra, A Far Cry.Shara Nova also participates in this work as a vocal soloist. One of the female composers, Sarah Kirkland Snyder, commented. "When we first got together to talk about this project for the first time, we became exactly the kind of 'circle of conversation' we were trying to express here, sharing together a deep sense of appreciation for how meaningful each other's presence has been in our respective musical journeys. I think this was reflected in the process of actually creating the songs. One of us would share an idea in Dropbox, and the next composer would find the seed of inspiration in that idea that would lead to another song, and so on. What I like about this collection of songs is that it allows us to listen musically to how our mutual presence has influenced each other over the years.This collection of songs embodies and celebrates what I would call our musical sisterhood.
