Amazing DVD release following the Mass! With bonus footage (Bernstein talks about it)! Bernstein's Motzlek has been a long seller on CD in the entr?e series. The video is finally available on DVD! This live performance was held in 1988 at the Church of the Assumption of Mary Monastery in Diesen, a town on the shores of Lake Ammer outside Munich, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of Bernstein's wife, actress Felicia Montealegre, and shows the deep spirituality and strong feelings of Bernstein in his later years. It is a wonderful performance. The video, directed by Humphrey Burton, makes this masterful performance all the more moving in combination with the beauty of the abbey church, which was built in 1739 and is a thing of beauty, and the opulence of the interior is well captured in this video.The overall tempo is slow, and the interpretation is quite the opposite of the period approach that is popular these days. It is a great pleasure to release a DVD that allows the audience to experience it. To commemorate the first DVD release, a bonus video of Bernstein talking about this performance is also included.
