Recorded to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Josquin des Prez's death! Josquin's small collection of motets and single movement masses! The Brabant Ensemble and Stephen Rice are passionate about discovering and researching the unknown music and polyphony of the Netherland and Flemish music schools. The Brabant Ensemble, which has been nominated for the Gramophone Prize three times, commemorates the 500th anniversary of the death of Josquin des Prez (c.1450/55-1521) with this recording. Although Tallis Scholars has achieved the feat of recording the complete works of Josquin's masses, which unify the movements of the mass with a single melody, this recording includes two masses in a single movement ("Blessed Virgin [Bevelez]" and "Blessed Virgin [Berez]"), which were common in the early 15th century before the form of the melody mass was established. The two masses include the Blessed Virgin (Beate Virgin) and the Passion (Passione), both of which were common in the early 15th century, before the fixed-melody mass format took hold. Tokyo M-Plus
