An innovative string quartet work written by a young contemporary composer in the fall of 2015, a truly timely release with Ades winning the Leonie Sonning Music Prize in Copenhagen, Abrahamsen winning the Gromeyer Prize for composition, and Noago winning the 2016 Ernst von Siemens Prize! The three works selected here are the first three works in the series to be performed in the United States. The three works selected here are all written by composers in their twenties: the Bartók- and Hornborg-influenced works of Noago, the minimalist works of Abrahamsen, Noago's most talented pupil, and the kaleidoscopic, colorful works of Adès. Each is colored with challenging and innovative sounds. The Danish String Quartet performing is one of the hottest ensembles in the world today, and this album is their debut for the ECM label. They have been playing chamber music together since they were teenagers and later enrolled at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where they grew up together while studying music, and made their first recording in 2006.Later, cellist Sherin joined the group, and they have been highly acclaimed in various fields for their excellent performances not only of classical and contemporary works, but also of folk music.
