This is awesome!!! Gerd Schaller has recorded not only Bruckner's complete symphonies as a conductor with new symphonies added to Bruckner's repertoire, but also his complete organ works as an organist. His quest is not over yet. This time, Schaller arranged the string quintet for full orchestra and recorded it with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra instead of the usual Philharmonie Festspiele. The String Quintet was written in 1878-9, the same period as the 5th and 6th symphonies, and is a large work with a playing time of over 40 minutes. It is an unusual chamber work for Bruckner, a symphonic composer, but its symphonic elements have long been noted and performed by a string orchestra. Schaller has developed it into Bruckner's 12th symphony. Schaller himself has described the Adagio as "one of the most beautiful pieces of music Bruckner wrote," and the string parts are for string orchestra only, while the other string parts follow Bruckner's original as much as possible. symphonic sound inherent in the original. The result is a new symphony with an atmosphere reminiscent of the Sixth Symphony.In the String Quintet, Helmesberger, who premiered the piece, declared the scherzo movement "unplayable," so an alternative "Interlude" was created. Schaller also orchestrated this interlude, and we are happy to see that it is in five movements. It is also noteworthy that the early "Overture in G minor" is included. The same instrumentation as in Schaller's full orchestra version of the string quintet is used, so it is interesting to discover the similarities between the two works. Gerd Schaller, born in Bamberg in 1965, began his conducting career in 1993 at the Hanover State Opera, and in 1998 at the Braunschweig State Opera, and from 2003 to 2006 as general music director of the Magdeburg Theater.
