Description:

Death and suffering are themes that affect everyone who comes into this world. How one faces (or fails to face) these issues determines, consciously or unconsciously, one's attitude toward life... This is the theme of "Lamentate," which I composed. That is why I wrote the lament not for the dead, but for the living who must grapple with these issues themselves." Composer Arvo Pärt says this about his largest instrumental work to date, and it is precisely these issues, death and suffering, that surround this recording. born in 1935 in Paide, Estonia, Pärt knows himself deeply. Branded by the Soviet authorities as overly modern and overly religious, he experienced a serious life crisis, ending his early compositional career with unfathomable suffering and seclusion. Then, in the mid-1970s, Pelto experienced an artistic resurgence and began composing music inspired by the sound of bells, which he defined as "tintinnabuli," music based on Slavonic sacred texts used primarily in Latin and Orthodox liturgies. Pärt said of his style, "I must pursue unity...everything that is not important is removed. Tintinnabulation is like this. I am alone here with the silence. I discover that if only one note is played beautifully, it is enough. This one note, or silent beat, or momentary silence comforts me." He said. Pedro Piquero studied with Esteban Sanchez in Spain and Caio Pagano in the United States. He has also had an international career, including an invitation to perform at Maria Joao Piris's Bergaix Arts and Culture Center in Portugal.
