[Toru Takemitsu: 25 Years After His Death UHQCD Masterpiece Selection] To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death of Toru Takemitsu, one of Japan's most famous composers, Deutsche Grammophon and Decca have carefully selected and reissued the masterpieces of his works. These 10 titles include albums that have been difficult to obtain in recent years, all of which are being reissued on UHQCD for the first time. This series is the best way to trace the achievements of the composer, who left behind many masterpieces in a wide variety of styles. Sacrifice" contrasts the old and new instruments, the lute and vibraphone, and "Catolene" was acclaimed by the New York Times. This disc couples four pieces written by Toru Takemitsu in the 1960s and two pieces composed in the mid-1970s. Seiji Ozawa and Hiroshi Wakasugi, who have premiered many of Takemitsu's works, give a performance of their own, and the ensemble "Tassi," of which P. Zelkin and Stoltzman were members, performs with them on "Katrain.
