Nils Wilhelm Goese will celebrate the 200th anniversary of his birth in 2017. Although he originally began his career as a violinist and later became the principal conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, as a composer he had a strong interest in piano music and left several impressive works. The "Sonata in F minor" was conceived at the age of 21, but took 15 years to complete. It is full of three-dimensional sounds reminiscent of an orchestra, and was dedicated to Franz Liszt, whom he admired. The series of "Watercolors," to which Goese was attached, is a collection of introspective pieces reminiscent of Schumann. All of the recorded works are performed according to the new Gese edition published in 2015. Naxos Japan
