Up-and-coming Danish cellist Carl-Oscar Osterlind! One of the leading musicians of his generation in Scandinavia, cellist Carl-Oscar Osterlind (1984-) makes his first album as a soloist. Three works by Brahms: the "Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor," a "homage to J.S. Bach," composed with melodic inspiration from J.S. Bach and using the fourth and thirteenth "contrapuntus" of the "Technique de la Fugue" as the theme. The "Cello Sonata No. 2 in F major," written about 20 years later and dedicated to Robert Hausmann, who is credited with making No. 1 popular. The mellow and intimate "Sonata No. 2 for Clarinet" was arranged for cello and piano by Ustalin, and Gruensten, who plays the piano, says, "The cello brings a wonderful warmth to this work.Ustalin studied with Turleif Teden at the Royal Stockholm School of Music's Etzberg Campus, Morten Soeten at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Ralph Kershbohm at the University of Southern California, France Hermechon in Piteå, and Hans-Jaan Jensen in Chicago. He also studied with He was awarded a "Young Elite" scholarship from the Danish Arts Council. He has participated in competitions and festivals in Denmark, Sweden, the United States, and other countries where he has received high acclaim. She is a cellist in the Messiaen Quartet in Copenhagen. He has been a soloist with the Danish Chamber Players, Ensemble Mitvest, and Esbjerg Ensemble, and principal guest cellist with the Copenhagen Philharmonic, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. His current instrument is a 1703 "Giovanni Grancino" on loan from the Augustinus Foundation.Danish Emil Gryesten (1985-), who recorded Schubert's "Piano Sonata in C minor" and "Musik und Das Musik" (DACOCD769) and Liszt's "Piano Sonata in B minor" and "Obermann's Valley" (DACOCD772), is the co-recording partner of Danish Emil Gryesten (1985-).
