Description:

[Panorama Series: Semi-New Pressings / Encore Pressings] "Panorama" is a series for beginners of classical music that compiles masterpieces of classical music by composer in two-disc sets using Deutsche Grammophon and Decca sound sources. With the exception of a few operas and other works, there are no fade-outs or movement excerpts, and the series is based on the recording of all the movements of a single work. The performances are all masterpieces that can be recommended with confidence. This is an encore pressing of 40 selected titles. This album contains Mozart's masterpieces of the last years of his life, the Three Great Symphonies and the Requiem. The three symphonies were performed by Böhm and the Berlin Philharmonic and recorded as part of the "Complete Mozart Symphonies" for the first time in recorded history. In particular, Nos. 40 and 41, "Jupiter," were huge best-sellers when they were first released. The "Requiem" was one of the first performances that Karajan recorded in stereo under contract with Deutsche Grammophon after the war. The piano sonata by Brendel was recorded using the Philips master. [Performer] Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra/Conductor: Karl Böhm (1-3), Alfred Brendel (piano) (4), Wilma Lipp (soprano), Hilde Lessel-Maidan (alto), Anton Delmota (tenor), Walter Berry (bass), Vienna Musikverein Society Choir, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra / Conductor: Herbert von Karajan (5) Recordings: February 1966 (1), December 1961 (2), October 1961 (5), March 1962 (3) Berlin, March 1984 London (4)
