Born in Belgium, Franck showed musical talent from an early age, but lived a modest life as a church organist and teacher. As a composer, he remained unappreciated for a long time, and his works were rarely even published. Finally, the premiere of "The Damned Hunter" in 1882 brought him some success and a slight rise in popularity, but not enough to be considered a great success. However, from then on, Franck wrote one outstanding work after another, creating a world of his own. This album contains three of his works: "The Damned Hunter," a descriptive piece about a count who breaks the Sabbath and goes hunting, only to be cursed with eternal damnation; "Psyche," an episode from Greek mythology with slow music throughout; and "The People of Aeolus," a work written before Frank's popularity grew. The "Psyche" is a piece of music that is usually performed without chorus. The most important point is that "Psyche," which is usually performed without chorus, can be heard in its full version with chorus. The rich atmosphere of the chorus and the colorful sound of the orchestra is so sensual that it radically overturns the generally hard image of Franck. Naxos Japan
