This CD features all four orchestral suites (or “overtures”)—including the original 16th Suite, which contains that famous melody, as well as Suites Nos. 12 and 14, renowned as masterpieces for the flute (featuring a thrilling performance by the virtuoso Kaiser!)—all performed at a comfortable tempo and compiled onto a single disc (a feat rarely achieved, as these works often span two discs). Under the baton of a conductor who carries on the tradition of renowned German musicians such as Abendroth and Schneiderhan, this performance—which uses modern instruments while incorporating the best of early music practice—can truly be described as a standard interpretation of Bach that appeals to modern audiences.
