This is an upgraded version of the highly acclaimed *The Lost BBC Sessions 1963–1965* (EGDR-0005). As you may know, the BBC no longer holds the original masters. Over many years, we have thoroughly researched and unearthed every existing audio source—from broadcast discs scattered around the world to “off-air masters” recorded by fans. This is the release with the most tracks to date. Although the sound quality varies from one broadcast program to another—many of which featured the Stones—these are all precious live takes that let you feel the band’s maturation over the years, starting with covers of Chicago blues and Chuck Berry. By 1964, Mick Jagger had begun singing with confidence, and the guitar ensemble featuring Keith and Brian had become increasingly polished. Since these are studio live recordings, Charlie’s drums and Bill’s bass are mixed louder than on the albums, allowing you to truly experience the Stones as a live band. Take “Come On,” the first song from their debut performance: they experimented with changes to the arrangement from their debut single, featuring Keith’s guitar solo and omitting the key change, among other adjustments, to make it more suited for live performance. Furthermore, since this uses a different master than the official release, there are many parts not heard on the official version, which contains occasional production errors. In “Ain’t That Loving You Baby”—which became a talking point as an unreleased track—you can hear the chorus of the first verse one more time than on the official release, and songs like “I Wanna Be Your Man,” “Around and Around,” and “Down the Road Apiece,” which were missing their intros on the official version, can be heard in their complete takes on this CD.
