Based in Accra, the capital of Ghana, the large, young group Santrofi has a sound that is a more modernized version of highlife, one of the major backbones of West African music, and the Afrobeat that developed from it. Their debut album was "Aleiwa," produced by Germany's Out Here Rec in 2020. The superb groove of authentic highlife - Afrobeat with horns and percussion, played to the highest standard and funky vocals is very appealing. The polyrhythmic drums sometimes add tension to the rhythm and make it thrilling to listen to, which is sure to touch the heartstrings of jazz and funk fans. The title "ALEWA" refers to the black-and-white striped sweets popular in Accra, and the message of the song is that people of different origins can appreciate each other's diversity and build a world of love and unity.
