Description:

Natan Milshtein, born in Odessa, Imperial Russia (now Ukraine), never visited Japan, but has many fans in Japan due to his outstanding technique, beautiful sound, and dignified performance. The three pieces included in this CD are the first three pieces of the "Milshtein" series. Biddulph's CDs are all from MIRSHTAIN's second monaural LP period. Born on January 13, 1904 (December 31, 1903 according to the Julian calendar), Mirshtein was 49 years old at the time of recording. The recording features a performance that is full of energy and vigor. The fact that the Mendelssohn and Bruch pieces were recorded in only one day's session is a testament to the high level of perfection of the performances. However, the era of stereo recordings soon followed, and in 1959, MIRUSHTAIN re-recorded these three pieces in stereo. The Biddulph label has been reissuing these recordings, as it would be a shame if these performances were never heard. The Biddulph label has decided to reissue the 1953 monaural recordings, which are also from 1953. Although they were recorded in 1953, the Tchaikovsky recording was the last of Milschtein's RCA Red Seal period, while the Mendelssohn and Bruch recordings were made after he was hired by Capitol as their signature artist. This CD marks a milestone in his recording career. According to the original commentary, this Milschtein disc was the first to use the standard coupling of Mendelssohn and Bruch's First Symphony. The booklet includes a color photo of the body of the 1716 Stradivarius used by Milschtein and a photo of the jacket of the first Mendelssohn & Bruch LP, and two black and white photos of the recording session with Steinberg.
