Respighi (1879-1936)

Description:

Trevino and the RAI National Symphony Orchestra make a grand entrance with their first recording of the "Rome Trilogy," one of the most famous works of modern Italy! Conductor Robert Trevino, who shook audiences with two albums of Ravel after his shocking Beethoven symphony cycle, and showed a new side with his subsequent Lautavaara and American works, has been Music Director of the Basque National Orchestra since the 2017/18 season, and from the 2021/22 season will also serve as Principal Guest Conductor of the RAI National The RAI National Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1994 from the RAI Symphony Orchestras in Rome, Turin, Milan, and Naples, and this is the first recording with Trevino. This is the first recording with Trevino of the orchestra's first concert in Rome, and the first recording of the "Rome Trilogy," which was carefully recorded over a three-day session after the concert on November 23, 2022, when Respighi took up his post in Rome in 1913. The three symphonic poems, which incorporate the history and nature of Rome, are masterpieces of Respighi's masterful orchestral technique, which he inherited from one of his teachers, Rimsky=Korsakov. The "Roman Fountains," the first of the trilogy and the one in which the subtleties of the refined orchestral technique are most appreciated; the "Roman Festivals," a gorgeous soundscape with a large orchestra and a variety of percussion groups, and a serenade with mandolin; and the popular "Roman Pines," also with a large orchestra, behind-the-scenes trumpets, and even a recording of a nightingale. The popular "Pines of Rome" also features a large orchestra, backstage trumpets, and even a recording of a nightingale warbler. Trevino and the RAI National Symphony Orchestra portray these with deep empathy, passion, and vividness. The banda in "Pines on the Appian Way," which Respighi wrote with Saxon brass instruments in mind, is usually replaced by trumpet or trombone, but here flugelhorn (with trumpet replacement), Wagner tuba, and euphonium are used, especially The euphonium sound that envelops the entire piece is a distinctive feature of this performance.
