Martini, Johannes (1430?-1497)

Description:

A rare stand-alone album from the great master of 15th century polyphonic art! Johannes Martini was born in Flanders (present-day Belgium), but was a little older than the French-Flemish school that emerged after the Burgundian school, including Dufay and Binchois, whose music still retains traces of medieval music, and was active until the early 16th century with Josquin, Isaac, and La Rue. Although born in Flanders (present-day Belgium), he was a composer active at the courts of Milan and Ferrara, the major cultural centers of northern Italy. Although he is said to have embodied the Flemish tradition of excellence in polyphonic music and to have been the first to compose a psalm for double chorus that would later flourish in Venice, he has not had the opportunity to attract much attention, as if obscured by the overwhelming prestige of Okeghem, who belonged to a slightly more senior generation. The talent of the composer, who had attracted the attention of important figures of the Italian Renaissance, such as Isabella d'Este, a cultural figure from Ferrara, and Pope Leo X, will be presented at a concert by Baptiste Romain, Marc Levon, Elizabeth Ramsey, and other elite players of ancient music with a deep knowledge of the music of the Middle Ages and the early Renaissance. Le Miroir de Musique" is a collection of elite players of ancient music, including Baptiste Romain, Marc Levon, and Elizabeth Ramsey, all of whom have a deep knowledge of medieval and early Renaissance music. This disc is a multifaceted examination of Martini's polyphonic music from both the vocal and instrumental perspectives, and features not only the harmony and polyphony of the four singers, but also many beautiful instrumental tracks with the sounds of early Renaissance instruments, including violins and the gamba. The music is beautifully played by Leonardo da Vinci and Miguel de Miguel. This long-awaited album is a true expression of Martini's art, a musical version of Flemish painting that attracted the attention of great masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
