Description:

Cipriani Potter was an English pianist and composer. He received musical instruction from his father when he was a child, and later from Thomas Atwood, William Crotch, and Joseph Werfle, among others, but he saw no chance for fame in England. He studied under Alois Förster, who had been introduced to him by Beethoven, and returned to England. He quickly gained a reputation as a popular composer and pianist. He studied the works of Beethoven and Mozart in their later years and incorporated these results into his own compositions. He performed nine symphonies, including the G minor symphony included on this album, to great acclaim at the London Musical Society's anniversary event. The "Introduction and Military Rondo" is a brilliant piece in which his skills as a pianist are on full display. Cymbeline, based on Shakespeare's play, is a dramatic work that shows off his dramatic side. Naxos Japan
