Description:
A collection of double bass concertos by Moravian composer Sperger. Sperger received his musical education in Vienna, and in 1777 he was appointed court musician to the Archbishop of Pressburg (now Bratislava). As a contrabass virtuoso, he joined the Society of Viennese Musicians in 1778 and made a name for himself performing his own contrabass concertos. 1783-1786 he was a member of Count Ludwig von Erdey's court orchestra, and then in 1789 he became principal contrabassist of the Mecklenburg Among his many works, including more than 40 symphonies, Spörger's 18 double bass concertos, in which the double bass sings heroic melodies, demonstrate his musicality and technique to the fullest. In this album, the virtuoso Patricolo performs concertos Nos. 2 and 15. The virtuoso Patricolo performed the Second and Fifteenth Concertos with brilliant virtuosity. The Sinfonia, recorded at the same time, is a bright piece written with expert brushwork reminiscent of Haydn. Naxos Japan
