Formed in 2015, the Giraud Ensemble Chamber Orchestra is an up-and-coming ensemble with a flexible compositional structure that can handle everything from quintets to chamber works requiring 40 members. In 2017, the ensemble released a highly acclaimed CD of works by Shostakovich, Vasks, and Baum. The new album features Sergei Simakov, a native of Russia who has conducted the orchestra since its inception, along with soloists Yulia Miroslavskaya (who studied at the Moscow Conservatory and Zurich University of the Arts under Scherbakov) and Mischa Chun (of Swiss-Chinese descent and a member of the Gershwin Piano Quintet), who also performed as soloist on the previous album. ), and Mischa Chun (of Swiss-Chinese descent, member of the Gershwin Piano Quintet, and active as a soloist in game music concerts), this recording features Gourda's exuberant and playful concerto, Prokofiev's symphony, and Poulenc's concerto for two pianos.
