Blessed with a long life span of 95 years, Gosek had a long and active career, seeing the end of the Baroque period and the beginning of the Romantic era. As a composer of lovely "Gavots" and a conductor, he is best known for reorganizing the "Concerts Spirituales" (subscription concerts of religious music), which had been interrupted by the French Revolution. Gosek left behind a large number of works, among which his 50 symphonies have earned him a reputation as the "father of the French symphony. However, his symphonies are rarely performed today. This album contains his "Op. No. 4" symphony, composed in 1759, and is the first recording of the complete work. It is written in a well-defined classical form, but each movement is quite innovative, and the use of oboes and horns is unique. Also worth listening to is No. 5, titled "Rural. Naxos Japan
