Handel (1685-1759)

Description:

Based on the popular 17th century epic poem "The Liberated Jerusalem," Handel's opera "Rinaldo" is a lengthy tale with a variety of characters. First performed in 1711, it was a great success, and records show that it was performed 15 times during the season alone. The score used for this production is the "Neapolitan version" created by the Italian composer Leonardo Leo in response to this great success. When Grimaldi, the singer who first sang "Rinaldo" in London, sang it in Naples, Leo and other composers involved in the rehearsals made slight changes to the setting, added characters, etc. for the Neapolitan version, and the score itself has long been lost. This time, Ceci reconstructed the "Neapolitan version" from the discovered score. The production was also much talked about for the way the performers were made to look like 80's rock stars. Please enjoy the passionate performance by the singers and the Orchestra La Scintilla conducted by Luigi. Naxos Japan
