Giovanni De Mac is a composer belonging to the last generation of the Flemish School of Music. Little is known about the episodes of his life, but fortunately he left behind a large number of works. Among them, the collection of madrigals was highly acclaimed during his lifetime. His early works were written in a conservative Roman style, but towards the end of his life, he wrote quite experimental works in which chromatic techniques were prominent. The madrigals on this album are taken from a collection published in Venice a year before his death, and many of the texts are from Arcadian mythology, richly expressing human emotions such as sorrow, despair, and joy. Between the pieces, small pieces for solo organ are incorporated, and the cohesiveness of the album is also pursued. Naxos Japan
