The long-awaited first Schumann album by Makoto Ueno, who is in dialogue with the Streicher fortepiano, which is closely related to the Schumann family! The piano that Schumann's father bought for him when he was a boy was made by Matthäus-Andreas Stein. Stein is the uncle of Johann Baptiste Streicher, the maker of the piano used in this recording. This 1861 Streicher from the Yamamoto Collection is in excellent condition, with most of the parts, including the hammers, being original, and it directly conveys the sound of the period. Ueno makes the most of the features of this historically valuable instrument, and delivers a fine performance full of delicacy and power.(1/2) Naxos Japan
