Amalia Rodrigues

Description:

Singing in her prime at a performance in Paris Bobinot, the sacred place of the Left Bank School. The year was 1960, four years after Amalia Rodriguez (1920-99), the queen of Fado, performed at the Olympia in 1956, which marked the beginning of her rise to international stardom. This film records his first performance at Bobbino, a long-established hall in Paris, which Amalia considered to be as important a venue as Olympia. Compared to the somewhat tense performance at the Olympia in 1956, Amalia sang with a more relaxed and spontaneous voice at the Bovino, which has a more folksy atmosphere. Amalia has added Brazilian and Spanish songs, as well as songs provided by Charles Aznavour, to her repertoire, and has received great applause from the Parisians. She is accompanied by Domingos Camarinha (Portuguese guitar) and Santos Moreira (classical guitar), who have accompanied her for many years.
