Elie Nye (1882-1968) is a legendary female pianist. She is known as "Die Volkspianistin," the pride of Germany, and was awarded the "Beethoven Prize" by the city of Bonn (Beethoven's birthplace) in 1940 for her unwavering interpretation of Beethoven's works. At the same time, she had "anti-Semitic" views from an early age, and after joining the Nazi party, she worked extensively as a collaborator of Hitler, but her life was so tumultuous that she was excluded from all musical circles for a period of time after the war. Thanks to her own lack of interest in politics and, above all, to those who defended the excellence of her playing, she was finally able to return to the music world after the war at the age of nearly 70, but even today her reputation wavers between naysayers and defenders. This documentary film by Axel Fuhrman, which includes previously unreleased footage, explores the life of Elie Nye and has exciting content that sheds light on both her amazing achievements and her ties to the Third Reich. In addition, a video documenting her performance (a world premiere) depicts "the pure Beethoven world" free from political and ideological context.The included CD contains three chamber works by Mozart that she performed with friends and a conversation with her chauffeur recorded in her beloved limousine.
